The governor of California has put in place a stay at home order for residents. (Learn more)

SMC complies with any closure orders, so regrettably we are not able to operate in-the-field (in person) programs until the orders are lifted or changed.

This applies to all ski, backpacking and climbing programs.

Locally, the Inyo and Mono County Health Departments are asking that visitors from outside of the county refrain from visiting and instead stay very close to home, wear masks, and limit contacts.

SMC Avalanche Courses

Avalanche courses have been very popular this winter and most courses are full. We are asking people who registered for field programs before Christmas to see if they can reschedule for after January 1 2021. We have added new dates to accommodate the demand so please check the dates on the Avi I course page. If you are on one of the December courses look at the dates and shoot the office an email giving your new preferred date and we will be doing everything we can to get you out in the snow learning appropriate ways to make career long decisions in the winter backcountry.

Quite a bit of rescheduling will need to be done. We are doing our best. The SMC office is open but on reduced hours so email is currently the best means of contact.

Until we meet again, please stay safe, and help prevent the spread of Covid-19 in your communities.
