It may be a bit of a misnomer to call these trips mere "backpacking" trips. The John Muir Trail is world renown for its length and beauty, traveling through some of the most spectacular National Parks in the world. The White Mountain Crest Hike, on the other hand, is little known but so impressive for its scenery and position we think it is well worth a look. Both these are tough, high energy, high elevation hikes. Come prepared to enjoy a walk of a lifetime!
This is it; the most famous walk in North America. Crossing three National Parks and covering 218 miles of stunning scenery from Yosemite to Mt Whitney this is truly one of the most spectacular on trail walks we have done.
We often joke that the best five day hike in the Sierra isn't in the Sierra...It's across the street in the White Mountains. This is really an amazing walk, trail-less for the most part, rugged and remote. For those who love great views and rugged backpacking (not mountaineering) we urge you to check it out.
If you have already hiked the John Muir Trail or are looking for something with more challenge, then this is it! This route takes on a mixture of trails and extensive off trail travel as it takes a higher line than the JMT, clinging to the main Sierra Crest but at the same time linking together trailheads to give us the ability to re-supply on a regular basis. This is wilderness travel at its best, in the spirit of original pioneers such as Muir and Clarence King.
Never climbed a fourteen thousand foot peak before? This trip combines backpacking and some cross country travel and finishes up with some steep scrambling to the summit of one of California's 15 peaks that are over 14,000' in height. The view from the summit over the Whitney area is stupendous and the approach to our camp, while easy, is simply one of the most beautiful hikes imaginable, with the countless lakes and verdant meadows.
